I created this tutorial for someone who wanted to know how I did the wings on the Butcher Faerie.

It took me a while to play around with the technique, but I finally blundered onto something that works pretty well.

Work done in Photoshop CS3/4. Should work for many earlier versions as well.

Edit: Added a little blurb about using the smudge tool to clean up inconsistent parts.

if you go to te bottom of the tut and use the arrow keys to scrol up and down the finished piece it actually looks like the wings are flapping! thats BANANAS!!!

I like playing around with new stuff every time I work, even if it's just a slight tweak on my normal techniques. I think I tried about a dozen different things on this one before I finally found a really good, elegant solution :)
